So says Dr. Karin Humphries, the UBC Heart and Stroke Foundation Professor in Women’s Cardiovascular Health. Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer among women not only in Canada, but also in most of the developed world. More alarmingly, the proportion of young women having heart attacks has increased over the past few years.

During  Heart Month, Dr. Humphries writes about the importance of supporting the Heart and Stroke Foundation to fund initiatives that will expand our understanding of the problems women face with respect to their cardiovascular health. Such an understanding will help to identify different ways of providing care, and to effect changes in the system of care.
